Never Say Die, by Samantha Quinn

Synopsis: Just divorced Miranda Peterson retreats to a South Carolina beach town to heal. But before she arrives, she runs into trouble with her car. Undercover agent Hunter Sloan knows the pretty stranded woman is in real peril. The flat tire was no accident. It was shot out. Why? Despite his misgivings, Hunter decides to get involved. Now the shooter targets them both. Miranda and Hunter discover they both need each other. Even if they survive, will their newfound love? Rating: 2 stars Review: I love romantic suspense, and the synopsis of this one had me eager to give this new-to-me author a try. Unfortunately, I struggled to get through it. While the plot held promise, the execution needed some work. I didn't really like Miranda, and while I did like Hunter, I didn't feel any real connection between them. I can't really pinpoint what is was about the writing that was the problem, but it did not engage me, and I found myself skimming a great deal. With that being said,...

His Clever Kitten, by MINK

Synopsis:  She intrigues me, this walking conundrum of a woman. A kitten sweatshirt, big glasses, and a trusting nature—she’s practically catnip for a man like me. So much so that I let her kidnap me at gunpoint. Instead of demanding money, she tells me of her troubles with a local mafia family. The Lucenzios want protection money from her, and if she refuses to pay, they’ll wreck her brand new kitty store, Pawsitively Perfect. Lucky for Maddy, I happen to be at war with the Lucenzios, and I’ll happily destroy anyone who dares tread on Maddy’s business or her heart. She needs protection. So much so that I find it best to keep her close. Very close. In my bed and in my heart, my clever kitten has dug in her claws. And maybe I like it that way. Besides, I have no choice but to love her. After all, she took me hostage from the moment I saw her. Rating: 5 stars Review: I am a sucker for over-the-top insta-love stories, alpha heroes, quirky heroines, snort-worthy scenes, and...

Review: Wanted: Josie Thatcher, Cowboy Catcher

Synopsis:  Wrangling myself a cowboy was supposed to be a rowdy one-night stand, not turn my carefully cataloged life upside down. As a librarian, I was used to steamy romance between the pages. But as a lonesome single woman, I needed to corral some trailblazing between the sheets … Buck Off Ranch seemed like the perfect place to put on my big-girl britches and throw a plot twist in my story. Mysterious cowboy Tripp Miller was as rugged as he was handsome. After he left me tickled pink at the local saloon, I was determined to live out my favorite Western romance with him as my leading man. Rope me. Ride me. Satisfy me. Talk about sore in the saddle! It turned out, this small town had sparked quite the big adventure. I was caught somewhere between saving a horse and riding a cowboy or galloping right out of my comfort zone. I just hoped Tripp was up for the ride because I reckoned I needed more than eight seconds.  Rating: 5 stars Review: This delightful story about adorkable...

Bombshell, by Jessica Prince

Blurb:   After ending the world’s worst relationship, Marin Grey had sworn off men. So it was rather inconvenient that she couldn’t seem to keep her eyes and thoughts off the Ice King himself, Pierce Walton—also known as her ex-boyfriend’s older, much hotter brother. He was cold, callous, and rude. He was also the most gorgeous man she’d ever laid eyes on, which made the fact that he’d hated her from first sight all the more unfair. When circumstances dictate they put their swords away so Marin can help Pierce take care of his son, that ice-cold hate suddenly takes a turn into something much hotter. And if they aren’t careful, they could both be burned alive. Tropes: Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden Love, Widower Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Review: My internal cringe was intense as I began reading Pierce and Marin's story and realized that it checked off quite a few boxes of the tropes I'm least fond of: Marin had been in a long-term relationship with Pierce's brother, Pierce w...

It Takes a Thief, by Sloane Steele

They have absolutely nothing in common—except for a driving desire to take care of those who need it the most. For Audrey, it means doing whatever she can to make sure her grandma never has to worry again. And now they have something else in common: the art heist of the century. It was supposed to be all business. Get in and get out, then move on to the next target. It reminded me a lot of the TV sho...
