Savage Hearts, by JT Geissinger

This is the third book in the Queens & Monsters mafia series by JT Geissinger. If you haven't yet read this series, you are seriously missing out. It has been a long time since I've been so captivated by a group of characters.

The series starts with Ruthless Creatures (Kage and Natilie's story) and then continues in Carnal Urges (Declan and Sloane's story). Those two books were so good I've already read them both twice. And the series is available in Kindle Unlimited, so what are you waiting for?

Synopsis:

Savage (adjective):
1) Not domesticated; wild and untamed
2) A brutal or vicious person
3) Malek Antonov

When my older sister calls out of the blue to announce she’s getting married, it’s a shock. She’s not the settling-down kind, and we haven’t spoken in almost three years. Even more of a shock? Sloane wants me to visit her and meet her new fiancé. Curious, I decide to take her up on the offer.

I should’ve known something was wrong when she wouldn’t tell me where I’d be going. I should’ve known things were odd when she sent a private jet to pick me up. But there’s no way in hell I could’ve ever guessed what would happen when I finally meet her fiancé.

Declan O’Donnell.
Head of the Irish Mob.
Target of a savage Bratva assassin who wants revenge for the murder of his brother.

Now, I’m thousands of miles from home, I’m smack in the middle of a mafia war, and I’ve got a Russian assassin who’s decided he likes the looks of me.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
They never met Malek Antonov.

Rating: 5 ginormous stars

Review: You know how when you see a movie sequel and it's hardly ever as good as the first? I find that many book series are that way as well. But not this series. Ms. Geissinger defies logic in that these books have each gotten better. There was a part of me that expected this one to let me down because I was looking so, so forward to it. Yet, Ms. Geissinger worked her voodoo once again and created the most riveting story yet. I love mafia stories, but I struggle to find good ones, and when I found this author, I knew I’d hit the jackpot. The problem now is that she has set the bar so high, I can't imagine anything else in the trope coming even close to her books, particularly this series.

Now that I’ve gushed about the series, let me gush about this book. I didn’t think there was any possibility that I could like two characters more than I did Sloane and Declan, but holy crap, Riley and Malek made it happen. Mal is alpha with a capital A-L-P-H-A, and there is nothing--absofreakinlutely nothing--I like more than seeing an alpha male brought to his knees when he meets the woman for him. I dare you to read even just the first few pages of this one and try to put it down. Nope, you won’t be able to. You’ll get sucked right in, and it will be some of the best hours you’ve ever spent reading.

If you haven’t read the series, start at the beginning. You will NOT be sorry that you did. And these books are available on Kindle Unlimited! So why are you still reading reviews? Get to reading the books. 😉

Webster's defines resting book face as follows: (a) the look a person gets when someone interrupts them while they're reading a really good book; and (b) the vacant stare of a reader who is mentally lost in their book world when reading isn't possible. Okay, fine. It's not in Webster's. But it should be.

The Body in the Backyard, by Lucy Score

Synopsis: Her self-absorbed news anchor ex-husband careening back into her life was not on this amateur psychic detective’s bingo card. Not only does Griffin Gentry show up unexpectedly at Riley Thorn’s door—the real shock is that he’s begging her for help. Riley’s hot private investigator boyfriend Nick Santiago refusing to take the job is…well, less of a surprise. Too bad for Nick that his octogenarian business partner overrules him and takes the lead on Griffin’s case.
